Mint and Lavender infused water… for a great start

Drinking plain water is a not so interesting prospect to many. Yet, our individual health requires water uptake of atleast 1.5 litres per day. General hydration requirements might vary from person to person.

That’s where water infused with a great food safe or culinary grade essential oils comes in handy.

My personal preference is a good 250ml start of day glass of water. And for the infusion? 3 drops. 1 of Lavender oil. 1 of Spearmint oil. And 1 other of Peppermint oil. A sizeable tumble, just like the one in the image, is a great measure of my first glass of water.

Not only am I a good candidate for the digestive benefits associated with all these oils, but also the minty feel that is likely to encourage me on to the next 6 glasses through out the day.

The oils used should be pure and food safe. Lavender is reputed to have calming and digestive benefits. Spearmint is soothing, minty and may help alleviate an upset stomach or a stuffy nose. Peppermint, as well, is said to offer good digestive benefits, such as bloating and gas.

You’ll also find that your breath is greatly enhanced by the oils, as they deodorise your mouth and upper digestive tract.

You do not need to have all the oils to make a good infusion. Any of the food safe oils can be used independently. Always observe the maximum of one drop. Pure oils can be rather potent and too much use can have consequential side effects. If not sure, seek guidance from a professional aromatherapist.

Here’s to that great drink of water, today.
